This completed model ship is a representation of the HMS Concorde of 1793 after her capture and subsequent refit in Chatham. It is inspired from the profile plans of the Concorde of 1777 which established a new class of French frigates of that period. Ship drawings were created by the Admiralty in 1783 following the ship's capture and are available from the National Maritime Museum in London Greenwich.
HMS Concorde model possesses distinctive decorations with a golden British Lion figurehead bearing the British Crown. The stern also bears the British Coat of Arms with the statement "Dieu et Mon Droit” (God and My Right) as per refit undertaken by the British Admiralty in 1793. The golden decorations contrast extremely well against the varnished wood resulting in a classic and sumptuous display model.

The Concorde was built in Rochefort in 1777 and was the first lead ship of the Concorde class frigates. She was the most successful ship of its class.
She went into service in the American War of Independence. The Concorde proved to be a fierce adversary in encounters with the British Royal Navy and was noticed by a young Horatio Nelson for her feats. With her reputation, she became a prime target for the British Royal Navy and it was not long before she was captured by HMS Magnificent in 1783 under the command of Capt. Robert Linzee.
She was refitted in Chatham in 1793, renamed HMS Concorde and brought into the British fleet by the Admiralty. She saw action during the French Revolutionary wars in 1794 capturing French frigates Engageante and the Virginie off the Channel Islands. She was extremely successful leading to the Napoleonic wars in capturing a total of 16 privateers during her illustrious career in the Royal Navy.
HMS Concorde served with distinction under Rear Admiral Montagu, Capt. Antony Hunt, Capt. Sir John Warren, Capt. Robert Barton & Capt. John Wood during her career with time spent in the West Indies and the Indian Ocean. Following the fall of Napoleon, the defeat of the French and Spanish navy at Trafalgar, HMS Concorde was still involved in capturing French privateers in the west indies after which she headed back to England in 1807 and was sold in Deptford in 1811.
Just like the HMS Surprise, also a captured French frigate, HMS Concorde spent nearly her whole career in the royal Navy waging many successful battles against her very own creators, the French Navy. In fact it is safe to say that she was more successful than the HMS Surprise in real life.
