Magnus Grimsson, Kristjana's grandfather, fought in the Cod War in Iceland. The Cod War was a series of confrontations between the United Kingdom and Iceland on fishing rights in the North Atlantic. All of the disputes ended with an Icelandic victory.
Kristjana spent a lot of her youth in her grandfather's living room, drawing maps and imagining people at sea. Still today Kristjana has vivid memories of her grandfather creating trawler nets, which were fascinatingly gigantic and almost neon green.
The artwork Calm At Sea, depicts Kristjana's ideal scenario when at sea, where the intrepid travellers meet her vivid imagination.
