Le Coureur was a lugger, a type of ship often used by French corsairs during the Revolution.

The ship was rigged as a three-masted coasting vessel but at a larger scale with a very long bowsprit, several fore topsails, and some topgallant sails. Le Coureur was captured by the English in 1778 during the famous battle between the frigate Belle Poule and the Arethusa. The renamed vessel was captured again by the Americans, off Newfoundland in 1780.
