The "Soleil Royal" was a French ship of the line that served in the French Navy during the late 17th and early 18th centuries. The ship was named in honor of King Louis XIV, whose personal emblem was the sun.

The "Soleil Royal" was launched in 1669 and was the flagship of the French fleet during the Nine Years' War (1688-1697) and the War of the Spanish Succession (1701-1714). The ship was one of the largest and most powerful vessels of its time, with a length of 150 feet (46 meters) and a crew of over 1,000 sailors and soldiers.

During the Battle of Barfleur in 1692, the "Soleil Royal" engaged in a fierce battle with the English Navy, which resulted in heavy damage to both ships. The "Soleil Royal" was hit by several cannonballs and suffered extensive damage to its hull and rigging. Despite its damaged state, the ship managed to return to port safely.

After the war, the "Soleil Royal" underwent several refits and was used as a training ship and a flagship for various admirals. The ship was finally decommissioned in 1750 and was eventually broken up for scrap.

Today, the "Soleil Royal" is remembered as one of the most iconic ships of the French Navy, and its name has been used for several modern French warships, including a battleship that served in World War I and a missile cruiser that served in the late 20th century.
