HMS King George V was a battleship of the Royal Navy, and it was one of the King George V-class battleships.

HMS King George V was laid down at the Vickers-Armstrong shipyard in Newcastle upon Tyne on January 1, 1937.

The King George V-class battleships were designed as a response to the limitations imposed by naval treaties of the time. They were intended to adhere to the Washington Naval Treaty's restrictions on tonnage and armament.

The primary armament of HMS King George V consisted of ten 14-inch (356 mm) guns mounted in twin turrets. Secondary armament included 5.25-inch (133 mm) dual-purpose guns for anti-aircraft defence.

HMS King George V was commissioned into the Royal Navy on December 11, 1940.

During World War II, the battleship saw active service, participating in various operations and engagements.

In December 1941, HMS King George V was involved in the hunt for the German battleship Bismarck. While she did not directly engage Bismarck during the Battle of the Denmark Strait, her sister ship, HMS Prince of Wales, did.

HMS King George V was part of the British Pacific Fleet and played a role in the final stages of the war against Japan.

After the war, HMS King George V underwent a refit, and modifications were made to her anti-aircraft armament. The battleship remained in service until being decommissioned in 1957.

HMS King George V, along with other ships of its class, contributed to the naval power of the Royal Navy during World War II. The class was designed to balance the limitations of international naval treaties with the need for powerful and modern battleships.
