The 18th century ship HM Bark Endeavour was formerly called the ‘Earl of Pembroke’. She was renamed HM Bark Endeavour and underwent a major refit at Deptford on the Thames in 1768. The Endeavour sailed to South America and then Australia where she was used to map the southern continent. Her Captain for the voyage was a forty-year-old experienced seaman by the name of James Cook.
