HMS Surprise has been immortalized in fiction, especially through the works of Patrick O'Brian. In his Aubrey-Maturin series, the frigate serves as the command of Captain Jack Aubrey and plays a central role in the thrilling adventures at sea during the Napoleonic era. The ship's portrayal in the 2003 film Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World, based on O'Brian's novels, further cemented her place in naval lore.
Although HMS Surprise was not a large or heavily armed vessel, her speed, daring exploits, and the historical impact of her missions earned her a lasting place in British naval history.
