HMS Queen Elizabeth (R08) is a Royal Navy aircraft carrier and is the lead ship of the Queen Elizabeth class of aircraft carriers. The ship was named after Queen Elizabeth II and was commissioned into the Royal Navy in 2017. It is currently the largest warship ever built for the Royal Navy, with a length of 280 metres and a displacement of approximately 65,000 tonnes.

HMS Queen Elizabeth has a crew of around 1,600 people, including aircrew, and can accommodate up to 40 aircraft. Its flight deck is designed to allow the operation of a variety of fixed-wing aircraft, including the F-35B Lightning II, helicopters, and unmanned aerial vehicles. The ship's weapon systems include the Phalanx close-in weapon system and the Sea Ceptor air defence system.

HMS Queen Elizabeth has already undergone several sea trials and has participated in various military exercises, including Operation Westlant 17, during which it conducted the first ever trials of the F-35B Lightning II aircraft in UK waters. The ship has also been deployed on its maiden operational deployment to the Mediterranean and the Indo-Pacific region.

Overall, HMS Queen Elizabeth represents a significant capability boost for the Royal Navy and is expected to play a crucial role in UK defence and security for many years to come.
