HMS Pickle was a Royal Navy schooner that played a significant role in British naval history, most notably in relation to the Battle of Trafalgar. The ship was originally built in 1800 as a civilian vessel named Sting, but it was purchased by the British Navy in 1803 and renamed HMS Pickle.

During the Napoleonic Wars, HMS Pickle served as a dispatch vessel, responsible for carrying messages and orders between ships and naval bases. However, its most famous mission came in 1805 when it played a crucial role in delivering the news of Admiral Horatio Nelson's victory at the Battle of Trafalgar.

Following the monumental battle, where Nelson was fatally wounded, Captain John Lapenotiere of HMS Pickle was entrusted with the task of bringing the news of the victory and Nelson's death back to England. Lapenotiere successfully sailed through treacherous conditions and arrived in Falmouth on November 4, 1805, just 10 days after the battle.

The arrival of HMS Pickle and the news it carried sparked nationwide celebrations and commemorations of the victory at Trafalgar. The ship and its crew received accolades for their vital role in conveying the news and preserving the legacy of Admiral Nelson.

Today, the legacy of HMS Pickle lives on through historical records, accounts, and replicas of the ship. The vessel has become an enduring symbol of bravery, determination, and the extraordinary events surrounding the Battle of Trafalgar. Models of HMS Pickle, meticulously crafted with attention to detail, serve as reminders of its historical significance and provide enthusiasts and collectors with a tangible connection to this remarkable chapter in naval history.
