    In 1776 relations between Great Britain and the partisans for independence from the colonies of North America are tarnished. The Marquis de LaFayette upon his return to France from America endeavours to obtain France's support to the conflict. The Marquis de LaFayette convinced Louis XVI to give his backing. In 1780, LaFayette embarked on the Hermione to fight alongside the American insurgents for independence.
