Do you know the difference between the Gorch Fock I and the Gorch Fock II ships?
The Gorch Fock I was built in 1933 and served as a training vessel for the German navy until 1945, when it was seized by the Soviet Union as war reparations. The ship was later returned to Germany and underwent extensive renovations before being opened to the public as a museum ship in 1959. The Gorch Fock I has a length of 82 meters (269 feet) and is a three-masted barque.
The Gorch Fock II, on the other hand, was built in 1958 as a replacement for the original Gorch Fock. The ship was also built as a training vessel for the German navy, and has participated in various international tall ship events and races. The Gorch Fock II has a length of 81 meters (266 feet) and is a three-masted barque.
While both ships are similar in design and function, they have some differences in their construction and equipment. For example, the Gorch Fock II was built with a steel hull, while the Gorch Fock I has a wooden hull. The Gorch Fock II also has more modern navigation and communication equipment, as well as other modern amenities for the crew.
