HMS Belfast is a Royal Navy light cruiser that saw active service during World War II. In 1945, HMS Belfast played an important role in several key events during the war.
In February 1945, HMS Belfast was part of a task force sent to bombard German positions in Norway in an effort to disrupt their war effort. The ship's powerful guns were used to shell enemy positions and provide cover for ground forces.
In June 1945, HMS Belfast was involved in the D-Day landings, providing naval gunfire support for the Allied forces as they landed on the beaches of Normandy. The ship remained in the area for several weeks, providing additional support as Allied forces pushed inland and engaged in fierce fighting with German forces.
Later in the war, HMS Belfast was sent to the Pacific to assist in the war against Japan. The ship was part of the task force that helped to liberate Hong Kong from Japanese occupation in September 1945.
After the war, HMS Belfast continued to serve in the Royal Navy and was used in several conflicts, including the Korean War. The ship was eventually decommissioned in 1963 and later became a museum ship, which is open to the public and located in the River Thames in London, UK.
