ROYAL CAROLINE 1749
Royal Yacht Caroline Ship's History
The Royal Caroline was built in 1749 in Deptford at a time when England was in the process of becoming a world military power. It was at that time under the Hanoverian monarchy of George II and George III that the Royal Yacht Caroline was used as the principal royal yacht. The Royal Caroline was named after Queen Caroline (Caroline of Brandenburg-Ansbach) who exerted substantial influence over King George II. She still remained the main royal yacht under the reign of George III.The Royal Caroline is arguably classified as the most beautiful royal yacht ever built and a very important stage in the refinement of ship building. Ships in those days were made using empirical methods of trial and sailing experimentation under various conditions. Most characteristic ship designs were derived from intuitional changes made by experimentation. The British Admiralty kept the design of the Royal Caroline and used it on many ships between 1750 and 1800.

Royal Yacht Caroline Ship Model - More Info on the Build Quality
This model of the Royal Yacht Caroline is built from scratch using plank on frame technique. The ship models is double planked meaning that a first and second layer of planking is mounted onto an array of frames to build the ship's hull. The ship model is built using the best mature teak available. The second layer of planking on the ship model is very finely cut and treated for it to replicate the exact shape of the ship's hull. The stern, bow and flank decorations on this ship model are all wooden hancarved pieces coated in gold paint. At no point are pre-fabricated items stuck to as decorations. We do not sacrifice quality. Everything is handcarved and hand-painted. The rigging and sails on this Royal Yacht Caroline ship model are accurate. The rigging uses threads of different thicknesses. They are also treated with wax for a good finish. The sails are hand-sown and weathered. Everything on this ship is produced manually which makes our work unique and valuable. The deck details are historically accurate. The deck is laminated teak and varnished to the same degree as the hull. All cannons are manually turned from brass rods.
