Our full range of ship blueprints for custom built model ships cannot be listed here but we have presented a selection of famous ships to give you a rough idea of our current capability. Accurate handcrafted model ships of these vessels can be ordered to be custom made using our wide range of ship blueprints and knowledge about ships. They are the original ship blueprints issued by the Right Honourable Lords Commissioners of the Admiralty of Whitehall. History:
The HMS Victory was laid down on the 23rd of July 1759 and launched on the 7th of May 1765 at Chatham Dockyard (Kent). The HMS Victory became famous when in October of 1805, she served under Vice-Admiral Lord Horatio Nelson during the Battle of Trafalgar. The HMS Victory will be forever linked with the famous message sent from Lord Nelson to the rest of the fleet before the battle : " England Expects that Every Man will do his Duty". The HMS Victory then led the charge and engaged the combined Franco-Spanish fleet. The latter were driven to submission but the battle cost Lord Nelson his life.

HMS Pickle was a schooner with 8 carronades, brought into the Royal Navy as the Sting but renamed Pickle two years later. HMS Pickle was under the command of Lt. John Richard Lapenotiere at the Battle of Trafalgar. HMS Pickle carried Admiral Colingwood's victory dispatch to England after the Battle of Trafalgar.

HMS Raisonable was Lord Nelson's first ship. He served on the HMS Raisonnable as a Midshipman at the age of 12 under the command of Capt. Maurice Suckling. Like the Agamemnon and the Indefatigable, the Raisonnable was among this batch of ships which were very well designed and planned by Sir Thomas Slade. The Raisonable was ordered by the Admiralty in 1762.

HMS Bristol Ship Model (1775, Sheerness, Great Britain)

HMS Bristol Ship Model (1775, Sheerness, Great Britain)

HMS Bristol, named after the British city located in the westcountry, was built in Sheerness in 1771 and launched in 1775. It was one of eleven 4th rate ships carrying 50 guns and designed by Williams. The other 4th rate ships were the HMS Leopard, HMS Hannibal, HMS Isis and HMS Jupiter. HMS Bristol was the third to be given the name. In 1778 Nelson served on the HMS Bristol as a third lieutenant and was subsequently promoted as first lieutenant. During the American War of Independence, HMS Bristol was Sir Peter Parker's flagship during the attack on Sullivan's Island. Later in the war, HMS Bristol was stationed off Jamaica, and fought at the Battle of Cuddalore (1783). After 1794 HMS Bristol was used as a prison ship, and was broken up in 1810.

The HM Brig Badger is said to have been captured from the American War of Independence. It served in the Royal Navy as from 1776. It was Lord Nelson's first ship as Commander at the age of twenty with an immediate opportunity to distinguish himself in the line of duty.

HMS Agamemnon (Trafalgar 1805), was a third rate 2 decker with 64 guns. At the Battle of Trafalgar, HMS Agamemnon was under the command of Capt. Sir Edward Berry. The Agamemnon followed HMS Ajax into action. She fired a broadside into the Bucentaure. The Agamemnon then engaged Rear-Admiral Dumanoir's ships.

HMS Vanguard was a third rate of 74 guns and a crew of 589 men. In 1797, the Vanguard was re-commissioned on 24th December after her refit had been completed in under four months. On 29th March 1798, she hoisted Nelson's pennant. Her finest hour came when the HMS Vanguard served under Lord Nelson at the Battle of the Nile. Nelson focused his attack on the French fleet van and centre. The French fleet had its 14 ships in a single line. Other ships forming the attack were the Goliath, the Zealous , the Orion, the Audacious, the Theseus, the Minotaur, Defence, Bellerophon, Majestic, Leander, the Culloden, the Alexander and Swiftsure.

HMS Majestic Ship Model - (1785, Deptford, Great Britain) - Custom Built - (Nelson Collection)

HMS Majestic was built for William Batley and launched at Deptford in 1785. The Majestic was a common class 74 gun ship carrying a crew of 600 men. The HMS Majestic had a firepower consisting of thirty 32pdrs, thirty 18pdrs and fourteen 9pdrs. THe HMS Majestic was commissioned in 1790 under Captain Cotton and saw action from 1795 to 1809. Among her victims are Le Suffren, El Bolador and on the 1sy of August of 1798 the HMS Majestic took part in the battle of the Nile. The Majestic saw further action in 1814 capturing La Terpischore and Dominica. The Majestic also took part in the capture of US President in 1815. She was finally broken up in 1816.

HMS Temeraire was a second rate 3 decker with 98 Guns. HMS Temeraire was under the command of Capt. Eliab Harvey at the Battle of Trafalgar. The Temeraire was close behind HMS Victory in the charge and was heavily engaged throughout the battle. The turning point of the battle was when the Temeraire engaged the Redoutable on the starboard side thus helping the Victory which by then was under heavy fire from the Admiral Villaret Joyeuse Redoutable. The Redoutable was unable to respond to the double attack and struck its colours soon after.

John Conn at the Battle of Trafalgar, HMS Dreadnought brought down the Spanish San Juan Napomuceno and took her as prize. The Dreadnought then had a go at Principe de Asturias. HMS Dreadnought's damages were very slight.

During her second and third commissions she captured La Medie, Spanish Brig Acteon, French Brig Le Jean Marie, Spanish Diligentia, The Charlotte, Guernsey smugglers Dart & Eliza. Frigate Diana kept up with her record during her fourth and fifth commissions.

HMS Discovery was built at the Randall & Brents shipyard in London in 1789. She was named after the previous HMS Discovery, which took part in James Cook's voyage to the Pacific Ocean and on which Vancouver had served as a midshipman. HMS Discovery was the ship in which George Vancouver explored the west coast of North America in his famous 1791-1795 expedition. In 1799, the HMS Discovery was converted to a bomb vessel. She took part in the Battle of Copenhagen in 1801. HMS Discovery was converted to a convict ship in 1818 and broken up in 1834.

HMS Invincible (Initially L'Invincible) was built in Rochefort in 1744. In 1747 during the Austrian Succession War, L'Invincible was chased by a fleet of 16 ships of the Royal Navy and captured at the battle of Cape Finisterre. L'Invincible engaged six British warships in an attempt to allow her convoy to escape. In the end she struck her colours and the French Commander De St Georges surrendered his sword to Admiral George Anson. HMS Invincible then served in the Royal Navy as HMS Invincible.

HMS Fly Ship Model - Custom Build (1776, Great Britain)

In August of 1775 the British Admiralty commissioned a sixth rate Swan Class sloop named HMS Fly. Its keel was laid in January, 1776 and H.M.S. Fly was launched on September 14, 1776. HMS Fly measured 97' and 7" and had a crew of 125. She was equipped with sixteen cannon and 16 swivel guns as armament. Very little remains about her career history, except that she captured a few French privateers. She sank off the coast of New Foundland in 1802.

HMS Hermione was a 32 gun 5th rate British frigate. She served in the West Indies under Capt. Hugh Pigot. She witnessed the violent mutiny against Capt. Pigot. The mutineers handed the ship over to the Spanish in Venezuela and she was renamed the Santa Cecilia. HMS Hermione remained in Puerto Caballo until she was recaptured by the HMS Surprise under Capt. Edward Hamilton.

HMS Leopard Ship Model - Custom Build (1790, Great Britain)

HMS Leopard was a British 50-gun 4th rate built in 1775 at Portsmouth Dockyard and launched in 1790 from Sheerness. In early 1807, a number of British and American sailors deserted their respective ships, then blockading French ships in Chesapeake Bay, and joined the crew of the USS Chesapeake. In an attempt to recover British sailors (or possibly to press American sailors into the service of the Royal Navy), Captain Salisbury Pryce Humphreys hailed the USS Chesapeake and requested permission to search it. Commodore of the Chesapeake, James Barron, refused, and HMS Leopard opened fire. The Chesapeake surrendered, and Humphreys boarded to search for deserters. Three Americans and a British sailor were captured and hanged at Halifax. This was another step in straining diplomatic relations between the Britain and the US.

The HMS Mordaunt was built to perform as a powerful merchant ship. HMS Mordaunt was commissioned for Lord Mordaunt who required an effective merchant ship capable to defend itself against attack. Lor Mordaunt had much hard luck as his investors pulled out before the ship was completed. Following its launch the Spanish Ambassador accused Lord Mordaunt of using the vessel to help the Brandenburg government in its fight against Spain. Under the current political climate, the British court impounded the ship until Lord Mordaunt paid a huge sum to guarantee its peaceful use. In the end the ship was taken into the Royal Navy because Lord Mordaunt couldn’t pay the crew’s salary. The H.M.S. Mordaunt sank in Cuban waters in 1693. It however remains one of the most beautiful ships ever designed for the merchant navy.

HMS Royal William was built using oak from the H.M.S. Prince in 1692.HMS Royal William was launched in 1719. At that time, rot caused irreversible damage to the hull structure. The useful life of ships of that era therefore averaged only six years. The Royal William was active until 1813, about a hundred years launch. HMS Royal William was extensively used in the Seven Years's War against France. The Royal William served under General Wolfe in the battle for Quebec in 1760. As a result the Royal William became instrumental during the British rule of Canada.

In 1577, HMS Revenge was launched at Her Majesty’s Royal Dockyard at Chatham, England. HMS Revenge, carried 46 guns and was built with speed in mind so that she would revolutionize 16th century naval warfare. In 1588, HMS Revenge was Sir Francis Drake's flagship during the battles against the Spanish Armada. HMS Revenge is however famous for action at the Azores in 1591. Part of a small English fleet waiting for the Spanish Treasure fleet from South America, HMS Revenge became separated from the fleet. Her commander, Sir Richard Grenville, embarked his feverish men who were resting on shore. The ship encountered the armada and was out-gunned and out-numbered 53 to 1. With amazing courage the crew of the Revenge battled on though the night and into the next day. In the end a wounded and desperate Sir Richard, ordered the ship to be blown up. But the ship was surrendered to the Spanish. The HMS Revenge, however, lived up to her name. She never reached port. Instead she was cast up against a cliff in a storm with only the 200 Spanish crew on board. Since that day the Revenge has been one of the most celebrated ship's names in British Naval history.

The Mary Rose was a 16th century warship built for King Henry VIII. It was the first ship to be able to fire a broadside. The Mary Rose was named after King Henry VIII's younger sister princess Mary. The Mary Rose also became the King's favourite ship. The Mary Rose was active throughout her career but sank during an engagement of the French fleet off Portsmouth. Work is currently under way to raise parts of the structure of the Mary Rose from the sea bed.

Mayflower Ship Model - Custom Build (1588, Great Britain)

The Mayflower was built in 1588 and in 1620 brought Pilgrims from England to New England (USA). The Mayflower, under the captaincy of Christopher Jones, set sail on Sept. 16. After a two-month voyage the ship sighted land (Cape Cod) on 19th Nov. Some time was spent in selecting a suitable place for the colony, and on Dec. 26 the Pilgrims landed at Plymouth. Before landing, an agreement for the temporary government of the colony by the will of the majority was drawn up in the famous Mayflower Compact. The Mayflower was then appraised by the British Admiralty and was broken up after the 1624 appraisal.

The Golden Hinde was a Tudor Galleon. The Golden Hinde was Sir Francis Drake's ship during his circumnavigation of the globe between 1577 and 1580. Upon return to England on the Golden Hinde, Drake presented Queen Elizabeth with gold, silver and jewels taken from Spanish treasure ships he had raided off the Pacific Coast of Peru and Mexico. Drake met with Queen Elizabeth I and gave a detailed account of his voyage as well as a map of the world.

The Royal Yacht Mary was built by the Dutch East India Company and then presented as a gift to King Charles II after his restoration. Yacht Mary was the first official yacht used by the King of England. The beauty of the Royal Yacht Mary lies in its simplicity. The ship possesses two lee-boards acting as keel during navigation. Subsequent British Royal Yachts abandoned this design building their hulls deeper and sleeker.

HMS Warrior was the first ocean going ironc-hulled armoured warship. The HMS Warrior was built for the Royal Navy as a response to the French battleship 'Gloire'. The clipper ship Ariel displaced 1058,73 tonnes. She had 100 tons of fixed iron ballast moulded into the limbers. She was rigged with double top-sails and main skysail. In June of 1865 The clipper Ariel was launched and put on the China tea trade. In October 1865 the Ariel covered the distance between Gravesend and Hong Kong in 79 days and 21 hours. In 1866 in the Great Tea Race of 1866 the Ariel docked at East India Docks 20 minutes before Taeping docked at the London Docks. In 1867 the Ariel came second after Sir Lancelot beaten after 99 days from Foo-Chow in the Tea Race of 1867. In 1868 the Ariel arrived as the first ship to London in the Tea Race of 1868, one hour ahead of Taeping. In 1872 the Ariel was posted missing outward bound for China.

The Thermopylae was built in 1868 by Walter Hood & Co. in Aberdeen. The build was financed by George Thompson. The Thermopylae was designed as fast clipper for the China tea trade. The Thermopylae was captained by Robert Kimball and the Thermopylae established a record crossing from Gravesend to Melbourne in 63 days. The Thermopylae also set another record between Melbourne & Shanghai. Other startling performances of the Thermopylae were from Newcastle, NSW, to Shanghai in 31 days, Shanghai to London in 91 days and Victoria, BC, to Hong Kong in 23 days.

The corvette L'Astrolabe initially the Ecurie, a horse transport ship of 390 tons was transformed for the transportation of men and ammunition. She was then modified for survey trips. In 1822, she undertook a world exploration voyage under Lieutenant Commander Duperrey. In 1825, she was renamed Astrolabe in memory of an earlier exploration ship commanded by Jean La Perrouse which was lost after surveying California, the west coast of North America, and remote areas of the western Pacific. Afterwards, the Astrolabe took part in exploratory expeditions. She sailed under Capt. Dumont d'Urville in 1837 and discovered the continent of Antarctica.

The Calypso was built in the USA in 1942 as a minesweeper. She was bought in 1950 by Jacques-Yves Cousteau. After extensive changes and modifications the Calypso became a fully equipped marine research vessel, complete with observation chamber in the stern, oval diving bell, Galaezzi diving chamber, inflatable boat for shallow waters, helicopter and much other submarine equipment. Length 42 m, tonnage 360 tons, speed 12 knots. Until the death of Jacques-Yves Cousteau, the Calypso remained an extensively used research vessel.

But, during the heavy storm that followed the battle, her crew seized her and the Santa Ana was able to return to Cadiz (Spain). The San Juan Nepomuceno, built in Santander, Spain, and launched in 1765. The San Pascual, the Asis, the San Lorenzo, the Santo Domingo and the San Agustin were all sister ships of the S J Nepomuceno. The San Juan Nepomuceno was a built for strength and seaworthy qualities. The S J Nepomuceno carried 74 cannons and was manned by 8 officers, 11 midshipmen, 19 leading seamen, and 492 able spanish seamen. The S J Nepomuceno was a very active ship of the Armada (Fleet). The battle of Trafalgar is the historical feat in which it participated. Although her masts were shattered by Lord Horatio Nelson's artillery in October 1805, the ship & its crew fought with great vigour under the command of brigadler Don Cosme Damian Churruca. While the mortally wounded Lord Nelson continued to direct the battle, the Brigadler Churruca, with a leg torn off and surrounded by total carnage, continued to voice the command "Fire!". S J Nepomuceno was surrounded by six British ships among them; The Defiance, Tonnant and Dreadnought. The San Juan Nepomuceno surrendered with most of it's crew either dead or injured.

The San Felipe was armed with 96 cannons enough firepowew to match the best ships the French and British navies had to offer. In 1705, the SanFelipe fought a heroic battle against 35 British ships but was captured by an English ship and badly damaged withouth any chances of being salvaged as a prize.

The Wappen Von Hamburg was built in the Deich-Tor shipyard in Hamburg by Dutch shipbuilders The Wappen Von Hamburg took up service in 1669. The Wappen Von Hamburg was used as an escort vessel on voyages to the Spitzbergen and the west. In 1683, whilst on the Cadiz route, a fire broke out in the bows and the ship exploded. Admiral B Karbfanger, along with 64 men lost his life in an attempt to save his ship. The body of the Admiral was buried in the Foreigners’ Cemetery in Puntales (Cadiz).

The commercial rivalry between English and Dutch merchants led to a second Anglo-Dutch War in the early 1660s.The Dutch undertook a major building program and one of the largest vessels launched at that epoch was the Zeven Provinciën. Admiral Michiel Adrienszoon de Ruyter made the Zeven Provinciën his flagship and his fleet was duely tested by the British Fleet in the 4 day battle in June 1652. Zeven Provinciën's rigging was in shreds and de Ruyter was unable to undertake any pursuits. As a consequence, HMS Royal Prince ran aground and was burned by the Dutch on the 12th. On 25 July, the Dutch and English fleets met off North Foreland. The Zeven Provinciën was hit and dismasted and de Ruyter managed to withdraw very swiftly. The Zeven Provinciën's next moment came during the War of the League of Augsburg, which saw an Anglo-Dutch alliance against France. On 29 May 1692, she was heavily damaged at the battle of La Hogue.

The Prins Willem was one of the world's finest and most expensively decorated merchantmen. The Prins Willem was built at Middleburg in Holland and at approximately 2,000 tons, she was easily the biggest vessel in the Dutch East India Company's (de VOC) fleet. Prins Willem was launched on 1 January 1650, and began her maiden voyage to Batavia on 5 May 1651. The massive, two-ton figurehead of a pouncing lion was only one of many hardwood sculptures which elaborated her stern & bow. After only one round voyage to the east - she sailed out of Batavia on 19 December and completed her home run to Holland on 28 June 1652. The Prins Willem carried 40 heavy cannon. In October 1652 of that year, she was actively engaged in the Battle of the Downs under the command of Witte Corneliszoon de With. In 1653, "Prins Willem" resumed her role as a merchantman. In all, she made 17 round trip voyages between Holland and Batavia, the final one commencing on 13 December 1661. The Prins Willem was wrecked on the Isle of St Brandon, near Mauritius, on 10 or 11 February 1662.

The Prince of Neufchatel was an American privateer built in 1812 in Boston. The Prince de Neufchatel was a fast sailing United States schooner built by Noah and Adam Brown and was a typical example of the apogee of the US armed schooner.The Prince de Neufchatel displaced 328 tons and armed with 16 twelve-pound carronades and 2 six pounders. Neufchatel's targeted British shipping during the War of 1812 in European waters. The Prince of Neufchatel was particularly feared for her ability to pursue, strike and quickly manoeuvre out of danger. The Neufchatel was forced to surrender in December 1814 when she was caught up by British frigates.

The USS Constitution was also instrumental in the war against Great Britain. HMS Java, HMS Guerriere are amongst USS Constitution's most famous victims.

USS Constellation Ship Model - Custom Built (1794, Baltimore, USA)

On 27 March 1794, the United States Congress ordered the building of the US Navy first new ships: the frigates Chesapeake, Congress, Constellation, Constitution, President, and United States. Constellation was the first to be commissioned. Constellation was built in Baltimore and launched in 1797. The Constellation captured the frigate L'Insurgente of 36 guns, the fastest ship in the French Navy. In February 1800 Constellation fought and captured the frigate La Vengeance of 54 guns. the USS Constellation then served in the Barbary Wars against Tripoli and in the War of 1812 against Great Britain. In 1840, Constellation completed a voyage around the world, which included becoming the first U.S. warship to enter the inland waters of China. In 1853 the USS Constellation was broken up in Norfolk, Virginia.

US Privateer Rattlesnake Ship Model - Custom Build (1780, USA)

The Revolutionary War privateer Rattlesnake was designed in 1779-80 by John Peck. The rattlesnake was built in Plymouth, Massachusetts as a small frigate. The Rattlesnake was armed with 20 guns and carried 85 men. She was captured by the British in 1781, taken by the Royal Navy and sold soon afterwards.
